Pitching
This 8-month training program is designed for pitchers ages
7 years and up that are serious about improving their skills
AND are willing to put in practice time outside of lessons.
The athletes participating in this intense, structured
program will ABSOLUTELY get better if they follow the lesson
plans and put in the work!
Training begins in mid-September and runs through April. The
pitchers are put in classes of 5 with other athletes of the
same skill/age. The program consists of 14, 1-hour lessons
spread out over this 8-month time period. Pitchers will work
with the same class and meet at the same location/day/time
for all lessons.
All three training seasons will be covered in this
comprehensive program: off-season, pre-season and in-season.
During the off-season (September to mid-January) pitchers
have the largest opportunity to improve. We will work on
perfecting mechanics, gaining power, learning a pitch or
concept of movement and improving spins and/or spin speeds.
In mid-January pre-season training begins. This is when
intense target work starts as well as the fine tuning of
pitches. Being able to throw the change-up for a strike and
determining which movement can be thrown in and out of the
zone will become a priority. Identifying batter weaknesses
and understanding how to pitch to hitters will also be a big
focus. Lessons and practice sessions will simulate the
environment felt during competition. In-season training will
take place once competition begins (usually April). Game
charts will be kept and performances reviewed. Small
adjustments will be made based on these performances.
Throughout the entire program the pitchers will work on
improving their mental game. Confidence building, dealing
with adversity and how to make adjustments under pressure
will be just a few of the areas covered.
A large amount of responsibility will be placed on each
pitcher accepted into the program to do the work assigned.
All participants will be required to keep a practice log
that will be reviewed by the instructor at each lesson.
Pitchers in the program who show a consistent lack of effort
over several weeks may be dropped from this program.
