Pitch Caller: Friend or Foe? 🤔

Hey There Friend!

Today I want to help you encourage your pitcher strengthen her connection with her pitch caller.

  • Does your pitcher struggle in games because she isn't throwing her best stuff against hitters?
  • Does your pitch caller call pitches the same way for every pitcher on your team, regardless of their individual strengths?
  • Has your pitcher and her pitch caller ever had a discussion about what pitches and locations she is most confident throwing?

If any of these questions hit home, I have something that could really help you!

Opening the line of communication between your pitcher and the person that is responsible for calling her game is something that could potentially improve her in-game performance immediately!

Below is an "assignment" that I ask all pitchers that train with me to do this time of year. It's a great way to create a conversation between pitcher/pitch caller about how you will attack hitters during games.

Follow these steps:

  1. Print this "Self Assessment and Pitch Caller Assessment" PDF
  2. Have YOUR PITCHER complete the 1st page and give the 2nd page to her PITCH CALLER. They should fill these out SEPARATELY so that they are both answering only based on their own opinions.
  3. After completing their worksheets separately, they should meet and go through their responses together and discuss any differences they may find!
Talking through this assignment can really help them work better together AND improve your pitcher's confidence because she knows her pitch caller understands her better!

This should be a fun "assignment" for both your pitcher and her pitch caller to do AND it could make an immediate impact on their ability to create "outs" together!

Give it a try and let me know how it goes! You can always reach me HERE!

All My Best,

Myndie
