Pitching Drill: Assisted Harness on the Stride Leg

Hey There Friend!

This week's post features one of my favorite drills for helping your pitcher get her stride foot set quickly. Take a look at the video above!

A big part of speed development comes from helping your pitcher understand HOW to move forward faster. The more quickly her lower body moves, the faster her arm circle will go to keep up with it!

Using a harness on your pitcher's stride leg will force her to land faster with her stride foot. This "awareness" it creates can be replicated when she takes the harness off.

Here's an example of how you could incorporate this drill into your next bullpen:

7 reps - with harness on stride leg

3 reps - no harness (reminding her to think about getting her stride foot set fast)

REPEAT one or two more times (20-30 total pitches)

NOTE: This is also a great drill to use when practicing change-ups if your pitcher struggles to really "sell" her change-up by slowing her body/arm speed down!

Give this drill a try during your next bullpen and let me know how it goes! I think it is something that can really help your pitcher move forward faster and, eventually, develop more speed!

All My Best,

Myndie
