Setting Up YOUR Plan of ATTACK!

Hey There Friend!

Today, let's talk about things to consider to help us get hitters OUT!

I believe that many times we make pitch calling way too difficult! Getting hitters to do what we'd like them to do is relatively simple IF we know and understand a few key concepts:

1. You MUST know your pitcher's strengths. When I say "KNOW" I mean have PROOF of what she does well by actually charting practice sessions BEFORE getting into game situations. How often does use each pitch in her arsenal? How often does she throw each pitch for a strike? What is her most consistent location? How often can she throw her change-up for a strike?

2. You MUST understand the game situation. Is my team ahead or behind? Is it early in the game or last inning? What's this umpire's zone like? Can I get a strikeout or do I need to pitch to contact against this hitter? Who is my strongest infielder/outfielder? Does this team like to hit the first strike they see?

3. You MUST have a plan (and be able to adjust if necessary). Set some process goals based on what you think will help you help YOUR TEAM be successful. Things like: I want to throw a 1st pitch strike at least 60% of the time. I want to use my change-up on one of the first 2 pitches against hitters at least 50% of the time. No back to back hitters reach base. Get at least 2 strikes in the first 3 pitches OR make the hitter put the ball in play in 3 pitches or less 70% of the time.

The PDF below will give you the following information:

  • How to set up your plan of attack against hitters
  • Ways to use your strengths to expose weaknesses in hitters
  • Game Scenarios Worksheet for pitchers, catchers and pitch callers! (See answer key below! : )

Have a great week! I'll talk to you again on Friday!

All My BEST,
