Improving Stride Aggressiveness in Your Pitcher

Hey There Friend!

One of the MOST common questions I receive from parents, coaches and pitchers is,

"How can I improve my radar speed?"

There are many things that contribute to how hard a pitcher is ultimately capable of throwing:

  • How solid is her FOUNDATION?
  • How much EFFORT does she invest in each pitch?
  • What is her overall STRENGTH level?
  • Is she doing speed-specific workouts regularly?
  • What kind of BODY AWARENESS does she have or how well is she able to make ADJUSTMENTS when necessary?
  • GENETICS - yes, parents do contribute to their daughter's speed potential!
  • How willing is she to do the WORK it takes FREQUENTLY?
Today's video shows one LITTLE detail with a pitcher's lower body mechanics that could be the KEY to helping her be more aggressive into her stride!

It's a common mistake that I see MANY pitchers making and FIXING it can make a big difference in how much her lower body contributes to her velocity.

Take a look at the video above that will highlight these points:
  • Little DETAILS matter!
  • Investing time in short, focused and DAILY practice sessions is the key to creating habits that stick
  • Creating new movement patterns take TIME, there is no QUICK FIX or magic pill that will do it for you
  • Focus on ONE thing each pitch - be SUPER specific getting to know how it FEELS when you perform the correct movement
  • Don't worry about the result of the pitch while you are working on creating a new movement pattern. Stay up close to a net to do your reps!
  • Start WITHOUT a ball first and master the movement pattern
  • THEN gradually introduce the ball and PAY ATTENTION to that ONE movement pattern
  • Once a pitcher can do things correctly, add AGGRESSIVENESS to the movement

I am applying all these things to a pitcher's drive foot position in this video, BUT they are relevant to ANYTHING a pitcher wants to learn or improve from basic mechanics to advanced pitching concepts like holding spins and body positions on movement pitches.

Keep your pitchers focused on small, daily improvements with ONE thing!

If your pitcher gets a LITTLE better with something each day, she will make some BIG improvements this training season and beyond!

Have a great weekend my friend! I'll talk to you again next Friday night!

All My BEST,

Myndie

PS - If you are interested in the getting one of the items I showed to put under the drive foot to help your pitcher focus on pushing straight over her toes, here's some links to get them:  Foot/Wheel Chock and Balance Pod
